Psychotherapy Services

Wendy K. Heckler, LCSW

I believe that seeing a therapist is a healthy form of self care when life’s problems, emotions, losses and conflicts feel overwhelming.  Even therapists need to see therapists! Therapy is a safe, non-judgmental place to discuss important issues with someone who has specialized training, knowledge, and experience.  Over the years,  I have had the opportunity to work with many amazing people facing hardship and adversity in their lives, and I truly enjoy collaborating with my client’s through this process.   We all possess intrinsic resilience and strength to overcome adversity, but sometimes life’s challenges require us to get extra help and support.

I graduated from The University of Texas at Arlington with a Master of Science in Social Work in 2007.  I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a board certified Supervisor in Texas, and I am certified by the International Association in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDRIA) as an EMDR consultant.

I specialize in the treatment of depression, anxiety, PTSD, dissociative disorders, and adverse childhood experiences.  Current and emerging research demonstrates that adverse childhood experiences and trauma effect our emotional and physical well being at a very fundamental level.  However, experiencing trauma does not mean that a person is “damaged” or “scarred for life.”  There is hope and recovery when therapy addresses the root causes of the problem.

While I have received training in many treatment approaches over the years, my approach really began to evolve after attending the basic training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR) in 2015.

Through this work, I am continually inspired by the resiliency of the human spirit, and the power within each of us to move towards healing and growth.

The goal of EMDR is to identify and treat underlying causes of a person’s distress, rather than just learning to manage or tolerate one’s symptoms.  For more detailed information, visit the EMDR International Association  (EMDRIA) website.

In addition to my training in EMDR therapy, I continue utilize and to draw from indispensable concepts and tools I gained through training in Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Based cognitive therapy,  Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Dialectical Behavioral therapy (DBT).
